Philip Cassidy: I am 25 years old. I completed my BA in Art and Design with a specialisation in painting in GMIT, Galway in 2007. I am currently studying for my BA Honours Degree in Fine Art at IT Sligo. My work is primarily executed through the realm of video and sound. In my video work I deal with the everyday, the banal and the mundane. I extract the ordinary in an attempt to elucidate the extraordinary within. The processes employed include systems of random placement fused with the manipulation of sound, speed, colour and the image itself. In my sound work I am also concerned with similar processes as in my above video work. I like to isolate and contextualise my own documented sound. I am also fascinated by the notion of interaction and chance encounters. I concerned with action, event and the notion of culminating dissimilarity through chance. I am also interested in the notion of the uncanny which is a focal point of my thesis. Although the above concerns are important part of my work my subject matter is constantly in flux. I love experimenting and the act of making without a particular aim.
