Drill

Hello and welcome to my blog. The purpose of this page is to provide samples and examples of my art practise and process during my BA Hons Degree in Fine Art at IT Sligo and going forward. I have decided to start this blog off with some of my most recent work. Here is a short performance video I call 'Drill'

A central focal point pf my thesis was the function of the uncanny, the obscene and the taboo in the work of Paul McCarthy. A critical anylysis of an early performance work of his entitled 'Experimental Dancer-Rumpus Room' led me to an investigation of mask theory. It is culmination of these themes and McCarthys influence which motivated me to make this experimental video piece.

Here is the piece installed at The Trades Club, Sligo, March 2011. The work is projected through a red perspex screen, the image is reflected back on to the wall creating an additional projection. A third duplicate image is created through the perspex screen as the work is projected once again into the distance. I Intentionally left the laptop as it created a mirror effect and was interesting to see through the perspex when sitting and viewing the work. Grace Weir described it as 'expanded cinema', a genre I hope to become more familiar with.

I enjoyed the experience and would like to re visit the trades club and a further expand the work.
